WHAT WE DO

Full-service vinyl manufacturing

Gold Rush Vinyl is a full-service pressing plant, meaning we handle your project from end-to-end to make the process as seamless for you as possible. Just send us your music and artwork files, and we take care of the rest -- everything from lacquer cutting to printing your album jackets, and (of course) pressing your vinyl.

As a client of Gold Rush Vinyl, you'll have a dedicated customer service rep to help guide you through the process and who will keep you informed of progress with your pressing. We also offer a self-service client portal, where you can easily find updates on your projects, including past projects you may want to repress.

Before you start the process of making a record, it's important that you let your engineer know you want to make vinyl. Music files should be mastered for vinyl, specifically.

We are proud to manufacture on-site in Austin, Texas. Based on our current sales queue, projects put into production at Gold Rush Vinyl today will be ready in about 10 weeks.

HOW ITS MADE

The steps in making a record at Gold Rush Vinyl

STEP 1
Lacquer cutting
The first step in our vinyl pressing process is cutting a lacquer. Our engineer carves the grooves of your record into master discs using a machine called a lathe. We can't make a good record without a set of well-made lacquers.
STEP 2
Electroplating
Once your lacquers are cut we send them into a process called electroplating, where we  make negative metal copies of your lacquers, called "stampers." These stampers get loaded on our presses so we can make copies on vinyl.
STEP 3
Record pressing
With the stampers loaded in the machine, we melt PVC ("vinyl") into a puck. Center labels go around the puck, then its pressed between the stampers, which are heated with steam. We cool the record then trim off excess flash.
STEP 4
Inspection & packaging
After records have been pressed, we hand-inspect each one, looking for any flaws or defects. Our press operators also spot-check the audio on one of our turntables. We then insert the records in sleeves and jackets we've printed for you.
